“Dr. Olsen, you do realize aiding and abetting a murder suspect and international fugitive is a serious threat to your career.”

“You do realize, Agent Marsden, to get a conviction of aiding and abetting I would have to have prior knowledge of a crime to be committed or a crime having been committed. Neither of which is the case. Unless, of course, you can prove otherwise.”

Marsden stood up and crossed the conference room. He stared out the window.

“Let me fully understand. You had dinner with James Langstrom four years ago. Yesterday he shows up at your hospital. You don’t recognize him because of his extensive plastic surgery yet last night, you trot off to Venice. Does that seem reasonable to you, doctor?”

“Absolutely not.”

Marsden cocked his head and looked over his glasses at her waiting for an explanation.

“This entire thing is absurd. I have dedicated my life to my practice leaving little time for a personal life. I’ve never done anything like this. Never. Maybe that’s why I agreed to go, it sounded like too crazy an idea not to trek off to an unknown destination.”

“And you said Langstrom told you he’s been out of the country without specifying where he was.”

“Someplace in Humaran.”

“He flew in to D.C. to grab a coffee with you in your cafeteria.”

“He said he had business in LA and decided to come to D.C.”

“What sort of business?”

“He didn’t say, I assumed it had something to do with the bureau.”
